Methods to Manage your Time More Effectively
Time management is essential for staying productive and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. With so many organisational methods available, so finding the one that suits your way of working and preferences is the key to success.
Let’s explore some popular methods to help you reclaim control of your time.
Time Blocking
The ERVS APPROVED time management method!
Time blocking involves scheduling specific blocks of time for different tasks or activities throughout your day. By dedicating uninterrupted time to important tasks, you can enhance your focus and productivity while ensuring you don’t overlook essential deliverables..
I use time blocking to manage my tasks day-to-day. With multiple clients who all have a unique task list, time blocking ensures that I schedule enough time to dedicate to each of them. This is essential for delivering the top-quality service I’m known for!
Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro technique breaks your work into intervals (typically 25 minutes long), separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a “pomodoro”, the Italian word for tomato. This method can improve focus and productivity by leveraging the power of short bursts of work, followed by restorative breaks.
Fun Fact: this technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, and was named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that he used as a university student!
Eisenhower Matrix
Also known as the Urgent-Important Matrix, the Eisenhower Matrix categorises tasks based on urgency and importance, helping you prioritise effectively. This time management technique encourages you to prioritise tasks based on their significance, allowing you to focus on what truly matters. You can then delegate or delete less critical activities.

Getting Things Done (GTD)
Developed by productivity expert David Allen, the GTD time management method focuses on capturing all tasks and commitments in an external system. It then streamlines the process by organising them based on context and priority, ensuring better efficiency and clarity. This method promotes clarity of mind and ensures that nothing falls through the cracks.
Bullet Journaling
Bullet journaling is a customisable organisational system that combines traditional journaling with task management. Using bullet points, symbols, and rapid logging, you can track tasks, events, and notes in a concise and efficient manner, tailored to your unique needs.
Jotting down your list brings greater mental clarity. You also get a bonus hit of dopamine when you tick something off your list!
TIP: You could use the the Daily To-Do List or the Weekly Planner pages to bullet journal. These are included in my 2024 Planner – get yours here!
